Bourbon Heritage Month 2020 Day 26: Filibuster Bourbon Schumer’s Pick
Filibuster Bourbon Schumer’s Pick
Filibuster Distillery
56.05% ABV/112.1 Proof
NAS
Finished in CA Wine Casks
Eye: Burnt orange, thin rim and no legs.
Nose: Orange zest and vanilla up front. Doesn’t smell young at all, though there’s a slight burn. Tons of vanilla custard and caramel. Don’t smell the wine cask influence here, except maybe for some sweetness.
Palate: Burn up front with sweet vanilla behind it. Mouthfeel tingles but coats the mouth nicely. Peppery in the back of the throat, but raw sugar sweetness balances it out. Mouthfeel is also balanced, just a bit more body would make it perfect.
Finish: Long, sweet finish with pepper and sugar in the corners of your mouth.
Overall: A great pick. Might even get another bottle before they run out! It tastes far more mature than it is - it’s on the sweet side, but there’s enough spice to balance it out.
