Rabbit Hole Heigold
Rabbit Hole Heigold
47.5% ABV/95 Proof
3+YO
Mashbill: 70% Corn, 25% Rye, 5% Malted Barley
Eye: Orange amber. Thick rim bleeds syrupy legs.
Nose: A little hotter than Cavehill. Rye is obvious but not dominant. Sweet corn is backed up by herbaceous, even floral rye. The bourbon and rye characteristics are very well balanced.
Palate: Sweter than expected. Corn sweetness in particular rolls right into spicy rye. Chewing gives more straight rye spice and body, with unsweetened cornbread. A touch of stone fruit way in the back and some nuttiness. Mouthfeel is creamy and medium-bodied.
Finish: Medium length, drying, with the corn and rye staying in balance.
Overall: In a single word, balanced. This is a great everyday sipping whiskey that plays both main grains with each other rather than against each other. Doesn’t go down the Rabbit Hole (see what I did there) with one or the other.
