Stagg Jr. Batch 7 Bourbon Review: Tasting Notes
Eye: Brand new pennies. Medium rims hold onto medium droplets that also hang on.
Nose: Fruity proof heat flows freely from the glass. Cherry juice, freshly pressed. Stagg power lurks below. Vinous notes open with air.
Palate: That’s quite nice! Fruity at first turning quickly to milk, then dark chocolate. Brownie richness with dried cherries. Mouthfeel is velvety, medium-bodied, like drinking spiced hot chocolate. Turns creamy as the fresh cherries re-emerge.
Finish: Chocolate-covered cherries all over the palate, fresh and candied, fairly long and absolutely delicious.
Overall: The proof is a bit player here, which sounds ridiculous for 130 proof, but it’s a vehicle that drives beautifully. The chocolate and cherry are never fighting, but rather swing gently back and forth. A fantastic batch in harmony with itself.
