Stagg Jr. Batch 11 Bourbon Review: Tasting Notes
Eye: Amber maple syrup. Blurred rims and hanging large drops.
Nose: Flavors muted at first, but the proof is there. Some cacao and black cherry, Luden’s drops and fresh fruit. Cherry fest all around even though the nose never quite opens.
Palate: Wow that’s hot. Liquid Luden’s cough drops set on fire. If you like cherry-flavored candies, you’ll love this. Hints of oak and black pepper - well, lots of pepper - but it’s the cherry show. Mouthfeel is syrupy and creamy, really quite good, dark chocolate starts building on the creaminess as the cocoa gets darker.
Finish: Short-to-medium length, chocolate becomes milkier and the proof disappears. Some expired peppercorns at the end.
Overall: Ok for a Stagg Jr. The heat was pleasant after the first blast, but this was one note in a middling way. Honey does start to appear, but by the time it does you’re almost done with the pour.

2 | Poor | Forced myself to drink it (Buckshee Bourbon and Rye)
1 | Disgusting | Drain pour (Virginia Distilling Co. Cider Cask)
