Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Rye “Cinnabon” Bourbon Pursuit Pick

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Rye Bottle

I’ll admit, I passed on this bottle because of the proof. I like some stuff at 94 proof, but honestly not too many. Plus, I'm running out of room. The guys over at Bourbon Pursuit - Kenny, Ryan, and Fred - generally pick pretty good barrels, but again I just don’t have room to buy every single one (plus some are sold out by the time my tier comes around).

Thankfully, a friend of mine sent a sample over to me. Ultimately, I think I made the right decision, but that’s not to say this isn’t a good pick. It really does smell and taste like a Cinnabon. There are still a few bottles available at Keg N Bottle…maybe I’ll change my mind.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Rye “Cinnabon”: Tasting Notes

Eye: Brown amber. Thin unstable rims, bleeding droplets.

Nose: Ooh that’s nice…very sweet, maple and turbinado sugar. Nerds candies and a very fruity, Runt-like sweetness. Tons of artificial fruits.

Palate: Tons of cinnamon and sugary fruit candies. This time more like Sweettarts and Necco wafers. Some maple in the background, but it’s not a prominent flavor. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium, like it wants to be a syrup but can’t quite get there.

Finish: Super fruity, fresh red plums and just a little baking spice from cinnamon and cloves.

Overall: I like this better than I thought I would. The flavors are great, I just wish it was at a higher proof for the mouthfeel alone. A few more points would help it get over the hump into syrupy territory.
